Identify the period and object first

Metrics can cover different periods: the last 24 hours or accumulated activity. An event figure also differs from one market’s metric. Comparisons need matching units, periods and data levels, rather than merely a shared dollar sign.

The market-details documentation separately presents volume24hr and liquidity. If a card does not identify its period, do not label the figure daily volume based on an assumption.

Volume is not current depth

Available exchange depends on prices and quantities in open orders. A previously busy market can now have a wide spread or few orders near a desired price. Past trades do not reserve the ability to execute a new action of the same size.

Illustrative example: 10,000 units traded during a day, while 50 are currently available at the nearest price. The first number does not make the second become 10,000.

Do not count trades as separate people

One participant can act repeatedly. Activity totals therefore do not equal unique users, votes or independent assessments. Even a list of addresses requires careful interpretation; its existence does not turn a market into a population survey.

Volume also does not establish how many people support Yes: trades have counterparties. Interpret a percentage through the outcome price, rather than the aggregate amount of past transactions.

Use activity as context

Interpret an estimate alongside volume, spread, available depth, freshness and precise rules. Greater activity can help select a subject to examine, but it does not confirm the event outcome. Low volume does not automatically make a particular price false either.

Keep the snapshot time and metric period when comparing records. Last week’s accumulated figure and today’s daily figure cannot demonstrate falling activity without a consistent basis.

FAQ /

Common questions

Does high volume guarantee an accurate forecast?

No. Activity and outcomes are different information. Evaluate probability quality on suitable completed questions with the observation horizon accounted for.

Does Volume show the money available now?

No. Examine the order book and depth for current conditions. Past volume does not replace the quantity available near a particular price.
