Identify what the purchase represents
Read the full question and its deadline together. A release before Friday and a release this month create different exposures even when both cards concern the same company. Rewrite the condition in plain words.
Next identify the selected outcome. Buying Yes concerns satisfaction of that condition; buying No concerns the opposite answer in that binary contract. The event title alone does not identify which position the purchase creates.
Quantity and budget are different numbers
In an illustrative example, 40 shares at 0.45 cost 18 before expenses: 40 × 0.45 = 18. Entering 40 shares and entering 40 currency units describe different quantities. Read the unit beside the amount field.
When execution uses several prices, add the cost of the filled portions. Twenty at 0.45 plus twenty at 0.47 cost 18.40, averaging 0.46. Do not infer the resulting quantity from the first quote after the book changes.
How to read the steps of a Yes or No purchase
For a search about placing a bet on Polymarket, the reading sequence starts with product eligibility. Identify the contract and Yes or No, read the deadline and rules, distinguish a money budget from share quantity, then check price and expenses. Confirmation that an order was submitted is not a received position; actual fills determine the result.
matched is an order match. Trade states distinguish MATCHED, sent for settlement; MINED, included in a block; CONFIRMED, successfully finalized; RETRYING, another attempt; and FAILED, permanent failure. Verify a completed purchase using final trade state, filled quantity and outcome balance.
From order to position
A submitted order expresses an intention. Understanding its result requires actual fills: the matched quantity, the remainder and trade confirmation. An order record and a position balance answer different questions about the same operation.
For a practice ledger, record outcome, time, quantity and complete cost. If only 15 of 40 fill, the acquired portion does not become 40 because the original form requested it. Assess the remaining order separately.
How to check the completed accounting
Reconcile the filled portions with the position change and expenses. Keep the displayed market estimate separate: it supports observation but cannot rewrite an earlier execution price. Current valuation and acquisition cost belong in different columns.
Continue with Yes/No, then the order book and fees. Trading availability must be checked with the platform for the particular circumstances. Reading this explanation creates neither a trading account nor a position on OddsAtlas.
FAQ /
Common questions
Am I buying stock in the Polymarket company?
No. A share here is one unit of exposure to a particular question’s outcome. It does not provide equity ownership in the platform business.
Is the displayed percentage my purchase price?
Not necessarily. Check actual fills and expenses. The card’s estimate can differ from an available offer in the order book.
