A sale requires a buyer
Holding shares does not mean the entire balance can immediately be exchanged at the last displayed percentage. The official explanation permits a pre-resolution sale when a willing buyer exists. Start with bids for the selected outcome.
An illustrative holding of 100 shares and a bid for 25 have different scales. The first price may look attractive while buyers for the remainder are absent. Do not apply the small filled portion’s price to everything still held.
Accounting for the sold portion
Suppose 60 shares were acquired at 0.32 and 20 sold at 0.41. Sale proceeds are 8.20 before expenses; the illustrative acquisition cost for that portion is 6.40. The difference of 1.80 concerns only the 20 sold.
The remaining 40 are not a completed result. Retain their acquisition-cost allocation separately from current valuation. If purchases occurred at several prices, explicitly identify the cost-allocation method used in the practice calculation rather than mixing incompatible methods.
Partial sales and cancellation
An order to sell 60 can fill for 20. Three quantities then matter: original size, filled size and active remainder. Canceling the remainder does not automatically return shares already sold or undo their completed transfer.
Check cancellation confirmation and subsequent fills, especially when cancellation and matching occur close together. An order identifier and verification time make the record traceable; a separate balance view shows which exposure actually remains after those events.
Selling, redemption and withdrawal
A sale uses buying interest before resolution. Redemption uses the recorded payout after resolution. Withdrawal concerns the subsequent movement of resulting funds. These actions are not interchangeable and require different evidence that their respective operations have completed.
For a clear reading sequence, study the book and spread before payouts. Without buying interest, do not describe the position as immediately available cash. An older OddsAtlas quote likewise cannot confirm that a quantity can be sold now.
FAQ /
Common questions
Can shares be sold before the event ends?
A pre-resolution sale is possible when trading is available and there is buying interest. Price and available quantity require separate checks.
Does canceling an order close a position?
No. Cancellation concerns the unfilled order remainder. Shares already acquired or still held must be accounted for separately.
