Read the time zone with the date
Keep the original date and zone stated in the rules. Convert that instant for local display, rather than merely translating the calendar date. ET follows seasonal Eastern time in the US; one fixed offset from UTC does not work throughout the year.
After converting, check whether the date changed. An evening deadline in one zone can become the following morning elsewhere without changing the underlying contract.
Check the start and boundary inclusion
A threshold touch needs an eligible start as well as an end. Up/Down needs both reference observations. Before, by and at are not interchangeable when the full text establishes a particular interval or comparison.
Illustrative example: a move before the window starts does not satisfy a condition inside it. A new touch after the cutoff does not turn the earlier contract into a positive result.
An API date is useful, but read the question
Market metadata contains timing and status information. It helps organize events, but a calendar card does not reproduce every measurement rule. Match its date to the text rather than labeling the final observation day as a confirmed result.
A displayed date without a time is insufficient for a precise comparison. You need the full instant and a clear understanding of what that date represents.
A cutoff and a final result are separate
After the observation ends, the fact may be known while contract confirmation is still pending. The procedure depends on its mechanism. Check the final outcome rather than inferring it from elapsed time, a closed book or a price near one.
Store the cutoff separately from confirmation time in an archive. This explains a delay without presenting a republished old snapshot as a new current quote.
FAQ /
Common questions
Why is the deadline on the following day for me?
One instant can have different calendar dates in different time zones. Compare full timestamps and the zone specified in the rules.
Does an elapsed deadline mean the market is resolved?
No. The observation cutoff and confirmation of a result are separate. Look for the particular contract’s explicit final status.
